Cross River: Court Shut Its Doors, Take Protest To State House Over Chief Justice



Reports reaching News Nigeria at this time reveals that lawyers in Cross River State have staged a protest to the State House over non-confirmation of Chief Judge.

It was reported on Monday, March 2nd that courts in the state have shut its doors to join a march to the statehouse for refusing to confirm Justice Akon Ikpeme as Chief Justice.

According to the report, the Cross River High courts, magistrate courts, and others have commenced a peaceful protest from the High court door at Mary Slessor to the state House of Assembly to challenge the assembly over its refusal to confirm the CJ.

News Nigeria understands also that Judiciary workers in the state have joined in the exercise, shutting all offices against people that have cases in various courts in the state.

Meanwhile, the state House of Assembly had earlier declared Monday (today) for the confirmation of the CJ, following a postponement last Friday.

Reacting to the development, an unnamed source reveals to newsmen that none of the legislatures was found in the House, but that they were hinted to be having a meeting at an undisclosed venue.

However, security operatives have been reported to prevent the protesters and some lawyers from entering into the building.

In another news, News Nigeria reported that cleaners at the Cross River State government house have started a protest, following the non-payment of ten months salaries

The Governor’s office was allegedly stinking as cleaners that were assigned to empty bins were nowhere to be found this morning.
